ABOUT THE EMBASSY The Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Ethiopia is located in Bole Sub-City, one of the prime areas of the beautiful city of Addis Ababa, the ‘diplomatic capital’ of Africa. The Chancery complex, which is conveniently situated about one kilometre away from Bole International Airport, proudly wears its trademark red and gray colours and has earned admiration from all and sundry for its modern and unique architectural design. The Government of Malawi constructed this magnificent building between 2007 and 2010. The late Former President of Malawi, His Excellency Ngwazi Professor Bingu Wa Mutharika inaugurated the premises on 29th January 2010. In terms of function, this Embassy is accredited to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and it also serves as Malawi’s Permanent Representation to the African Union (AU) and to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The Embassy is therefore one of the few multilateral diplomatic stations of the Government of Malawi, alongside the Malawi Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (USA) and the Malawi Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. In addition, the Malawi Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is also accredited to 24 other African countries in West and Central Africa on non-residential basis as follows: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Somalia, and Togo. |
